Taco Tuesdays

Today was the first day of our mini spike mission. We drove just outside the city limits to Grovers Park to assist with trail building and and a few other jobs. By three we'd cleared brush from almost three hundred feet of a nature trail, felled a tree, turned that into firewood, and been exposed to all kinds of poison everything.

Luckily, I'd worn my long bdus, so I sacraficed a gallon of sweat for immunity to ivy and oak. Some other teams sandbagged and shingled in cedar rapids and iowa city. Other teams had their projects moved back for insurance reasons and had to move wardrobes into the newly de-asbestosed palmer hall. I really enjoyed my time on the trail. My group lucked out.

Some of my fears are already coming to fruition. Ian can't do much because of his weight, so he was a hinderance for most of the day. After lunch he moved inside to do "office work" and the rest of the team started to get a little angry. "Why should his community service hours count the same as ours? I don't think he's going to last the ten months? Is he fat because he's lazy or lazy because he's fat?" and I feel the same.

The whole corps was exhausted tonight, so after dinner we watched the lion king and dispersed to bed. I worked harder today than I think I ever have before. My achey tiredness is satisfying and I can't wait to do more in the morning.

Bump the sunset idea. I take naps now.
