This week is a Three Day Work Week, similar but not the same as Three Dog Night. The bad news is 8 of the 10 people on my team have taken sick days, the good news is I can return to work. It hasn't been hard doing the Warehouse thing. We're pretty much just sorting nails or moving lumber around. Today we counted concrete blocks. I did the math.
The ingredients of a night:
1 Hookah
1 guitar
4 storytellers
2 beatboxes
3 scatting fools
10+ songs from the 90s sung in full falsetto
2 Nashvillians
I met someone who goes to Nashville State. She's majoring in environmental science of some kind and plans on moving to Oregon. Great girl.
We talked about 21st ave, Fido's, even the Tomato Art Festival.
I told her I live in East Nashville.
I live in East Nashville.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is supposed to tell you all about yourself. What it does is tell you a lot of things that can easily be contradicted, but if you play into what you're told, you might even be able to see your life concretely. Let's have an example. Anybody? Well... since you asked.
I'm an INTJ (Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging) the 3rd least popular of 16 personality types. Here's an exerpt of what this means:
INTJs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from their own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing the INTJ from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for its own sake... INTJs are known as the "Systems Builders" of the types, perhaps in part because they possess the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability. Whatever system an INTJ happens to be working on is for them the equivalent of a moral cause to an INFJ; both perfectionism and disregard for authority may come into play... Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the INTJ's Achilles heel... This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals... Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that INTJs really want people to make sense.
and one more:
Hallmark features of the INTJ personality type include independence of thought, strong individualism, creativity, and a desire for efficiency. People with this personality type work best given large amounts of autonomy and creative freedom. They harbor an innate desire to express themselves, that is, to be creative by conceptualizing their own intellectual designs. Among their greatest strengths are analyzing and formulating complex theories. INTJs are generally well-suited for occupations within academia, research, management, engineering, and law. They are often acutely aware of their knowledge and abilities, as well as their limitations and what they don't know (a quality that tends to distinguish them from INTPs). INTJs thus develop a strong confidence in their ability and talents, making them natural leaders.
Possible careers for this personality type include Computer Programming, Environmental Science, Engineering, Law, Librarian, Management and Entrepreneurship. Since I've been thinking a lot about computer programming, this is something that I read into a lot. It seems to me like this personality type is expressive, even for being so introspective. Here's the basic bottom line:
Personality tests will tell you what you want to hear.
I'm sure you've read something you identify with. In fact, I'd love to know what that thing is.
Also, Computer Programming is still on the top of my mind. I've been looking into easy programming like through Second Life maybe, and I'm wondering how to get started without completely enrolling in a program. Of course using a desktop computer might be a good start.
This conversation started with something else: Nashville. The question: Do I have to change my home to do something I think I'll enjoy. The answer: Quite possibly. And my eyes are set on the west. Maybe I'll be seeing California more than I thought I would. :)
and finally...

Not sure what this all means but I'm supposedly in the ESFP (extraverted, sensing, feeling, perceiving) category. In many respects you do read into the analysis what you want to identify with. Either that, or I truly am someone who is outgoing, accepting, friendly, fun-loving, flexible and spontaneous, adaptable, uses common sense and a realistic approach, enjoys working with others to make things happen etc. If it happens to be the latter, then perhaps accounting wasn’t the way to go!
As for the career, definitely opt for something that inspires you rather than base it on the amount of cash. Unless of course you can find something that offers both :=)
That's really interesting Annie, because I think we're pretty similar, but by the personality test (Link Here) we're completely different.
On the career front, the other dream is to throw everything out the window and be completely irresponsible for as long as possible. Shitty drum kit, too many video games, and bad company. Maybe 2009 will be the year I wish I could do over? :P
You should try the true colors test - it's like Meyers-Brigg but with colors! And it talks more about how we communicate with each other and how to improve communication. My work has made us take it twice now. I am a green-blue - a rare and highly misunderstood color combination.
Also, Loren and I are planning on moving back to Nashville at the end of this year, so if your still around we can make 2010 a year of irresponsible abandon.
I'm Green/Gold... big surprise to me! lol Linky
That might drastically alter where I'll be at the end of the year as well. :P
It's all in the air, I wouldn't have it any other way.
Never took the color test but in light of the Chinese New Year perhaps you should check out your Chinese zodiac. I am the boar (not bore) and some of the traits are frighteningly accurate.
I'm a tiger.
Ideal jobs for tigers include entrepreneur, military officer, politician, musician, writer, poet, artist, theater director, biological and environmental engineer, stockbroker, athlete, film star, trade union leader, company director, stunt person, explorer, and lawyer.
Fuck it all, I'm gonna be a stunt person. lol
I'm a tiger too... maybe I'll be a military officer.
And I totally knew you were going to be a green - it's why we are friends.
Yeah, personality tests do tell you what you want to hear. I like that! For example, the Jung test I just took told me I was an ENFP--a Champion! That sounds FUCKING AWESOME!!! I was a Blue in the color test, but orange and green were very close behind...
Also Colin...I think I can help you realize your throwing everything out the window career...I mean, if you are interested. I'm not throwing everything out the window CURRENTLY, but that can definitely change. We could at least rock out on a regular basis.
