After a good deal of reflection I have a self-created philosophy. Not something I read out of a book, or even thoughts compressed as far as I can tell, but an original idea. No, I'm not going to give it to you, you're just going to have to figure it out for yourself, but maybe I can tell you a story about it.
Alix got a tattoo on her foot a while ago, relieving her older brother of the pressure of being the first to cross that line. I've wanted to get one for a while, and have settled on one of two options, but don't know where I want it, so I do what I do very well: stall. Anyway, she got a starfish on her foot, out of the way and easily coverable. The starfish reminded her of a trip she took to Mexico, I think it was Mexico. It represented a lot, she told me, the trip and the people she was with as well as that time in her life that she wanted to remember.
Samuraii Champloo is an amazing Anime series, and one thing it has in common with other Anime is the symbolism. Of course it's everywhere, the family room=the womb, but there's a direct pictogram that goes with each character. This shows up in games to; in Shenmue the avatar has a tiger imprinted on his brown leather jacket. Shenmue is the tiger. In this sense I could say that Alix is the starfish.
Here's the thing... I could see myself falling between a few different symbols, but not in just one. On top of that, enough people have had tattoos that I could never get anything truly original, just something that I identify with. Does that mean I identify with Hobbes the same way others do? No, but if I had Hobbes on my chest... well I'm getting off on a tangent. The point is I can't make a brand new symbol for me that hasn't been made before, and in living with that, I should probably make it a symbol that I can Really identify with, or else.
For fear of exposing myself too much, one of my ideas is Hobbes, from Calvin and Hobbes, though not on my chest. Hobbes is a leg or arm idea. For the chest I'd like a Tree of Life.
What kind of philosophy you're going to pull from this? I have no idea. And maybe that's my philosophy after all.
and finally...
